APPLYFOLIO EDITORIAL · REVIEWED OCTOBER 2026
Keep job application claims accurate and consistent
A polished application should still sound like you and reflect work you actually did. Clear boundaries help you write confidently without exaggeration.
Keep a source record
Maintain your own private list of dates, titles, qualifications and examples. Check it when preparing a new application. Distinguish completed courses from current study and paid employment from voluntary work.
Separate examples from your history
Fictional resume examples demonstrate structure. They are not achievements to copy. Use them to identify the level of detail you need, then replace every claim with your own facts.
Handle gaps plainly
You can describe relevant learning, projects or caring responsibilities when you want to and when they add context. There is no need to create a false role to make dates look continuous.
Review every generated sentence
Tools can help with organization, but you remain responsible for the document. Remove unsupported claims, invented numbers and words that overstate your level. Check that your email, resume and application form tell a consistent story.
Put this into practice
Open the resume builder to organize your own information, or review our fictional resume examples. Export a local JSON backup before leaving the editor.
This is general writing guidance, not an employer policy or a hiring guarantee. Follow the requirements in your actual application.
